In delivery logistics, last mile delivery is a hugely inefficient process, marked by issues that waste time, fuel, and labor; as well as congests traffic.
Issue:
An electric, compact, semi-autonomous delivery vehicle that follows the driver in a delivery scenario to speed up delivery and reduce labor.
Design:
The Old Ways
The driver parks their vehicle in the street and takes repeated trips back and forth to to retrieve packages to deliver to multiple addresses in the vicinity.
The New Concept
We envisioned OX as a smaller delivery vehicle that would semi-autonomously follow the driver in a delivery scenario.
By following the driver, back and forth trips to the vehicle to retrieve packages are eliminated, and the total amount of walking is reduced, saving time and labor.
A Futuristic Vision
We sought to accentuate the semi-autonomous function of OX by embodying a futuristic aesthetic inspired by smaller delivery drones.
Functional Features
OX is a physical system, integrated with features to enhance efficiency of the delivery process, making the delivery driver's job easier and quicker.
OX At Work
The functionality of OX covers all steps of the delivery logistics process.
1. Intelligent Scanners
Integrated scanners within each cargo hold automatically scans each packages as they are loaded, registering them as loaded on vehicle.
2. Queued Cargo Holds
Pre-loaded cargo holds can be queued up in the warehouse, saving the delivery driver the time it takes to load.
3. Quick Swap
A loaded cargo hold can be docked onto the back of OX within seconds.
4. Algorithmic GPS Route
An optimized GPS route is synced to the driver’s dashboard according to the packages loaded.
Delivery Scenario
In the delivery context, OX follows the driver as they walk and deliver to multiple addresses in the vicinity.
This keeps the load of parcels within arm’s reach, eliminating back and forth trips to retrieve packages, saving time and labor for the driver.
This also prevents the vehicle from being parked in the street and congesting traffic.
